Tesoro Bianco Marble Kitchen

Every year the Natural Stone Institute selects one stone to be the “Stone of the Year”. 2020’s Stone of the Year is Tesoro Bianco Marble which is a beautiful white marble quarried in South America by Granitos Zucchi.

So far, 2020 has been rough, to say the least. It’s the year that never ends. But, the light at the end of the tunnel for us is Tesoro Bianco. It’s not every year that we get a client specifically requesting the stone of the year. This year, however, was our year!

When our customer called in specifically requesting Tesoro Bianco Marble for her kitchen remodel, we were pumped at the opportunity.

Our customer wanted her island to be the focal point of the kitchen as it is in most kitchens, but she wanted to do something a little different to really make it pop. By request, we laminated the island to make it double in thickness giving it a rich, elegant finish to her gorgeous kitchen.

Lamination is literally gluing two pieces of stone together to achieve the thickness you are looking for. It’s often seen with two different edges with the bottom edge stepping out from the top one giving it a cascading look. In this project, the customer wanted clean, sharp lines so we simply went with an Eased-over-Eased edge. This creates the illusion that the stone is thicker than it actually is.

The project turned out absolutely stunning! The customer was beyond elated at the end product and loves her new kitchen countertops. Marble is always an amazing choice for any home and any kitchen. It provides a timeless look and feel that no manufactured has come close to replicating.

More About Marble Countertops

Granite is a beautiful natural stone that can add color and bold statement pieces but it’s rare to see granite as pure white as marble is. Manufactured Quartz is a close rival to Marble with lots of color options that mimic natural marble but, no matter how much man tries to replicate the pure white and beautiful full body veining, it simply does not compare to the natural pockets of micas, minerals, pyrite, natural quartz, and crystalline structures that Marble contains. Marble is quite frankly in a class of its own.

There are however some downsides to Marble. It intimidates people, and when we do have clients ask about Marble, it comes with a fair bit of warning about its shortfall; It’s soft. Like really soft. It’s actually the softest of the natural stones used for countertops. Now you may be reading this and thinking ok, maybe Marble is not for me? But, before jump on that bandwagon and run from the idea of Marble in your house, hear us out.

There is a scale called Mohr’s scale of hardness which measures the hardness of natural stone. High-density stones with fewer pores are more resilient to staining. Marble is less dense and has more pores, which equals more room for liquids to find their way within the stone and create stains. Marble is notorious for etching and staining which causes most people to shy away from the thought of putting marble into their kitchen. We actually make a point to show people that come into our showroom what the marble will look like etched and stained for a bit of fair warning. However, even with its pitfall people still love the marble look and character it can bring into your home. The beautiful pure white color is a character only Marble can achieve to create a timeless look for any kitchen.
